1:45pm on August Bank Holiday Monday and all roads lead to Kelston for its traditional village fete. Car parking and pedestrian entrances are busy welcoming visitors and seeing them on their way to an enjoyable afternoon.

As usual, the focus is the huge marquee with its attractive stalls overflowing with garden produce and home-made cakes as well of course the Grand Draw with its many prizes including £100 in cash. The plant stall dispenses expert advice as well as a wide range of well-priced indoor and outdoor plants, including the favourite spider plant to start children on their gardening adventure.

In the field there are the proven traditional games, skittles, coconuts shy, tombola, welly throwing, alongside others unique to our fete. Keeping the rural connection, lovingly restored vintage tractors and static engines are proudly displayed, while a larger modern tractor tows the trailer for rides out towards Park House – an unforgettable experience for young and old alike.

Please visit our church or wander around the churchyard. Here we have an historic building with a small but active membership and a varied rota of weekly services. The PCC is very grateful to the Fete Fund for financing vital maintenance work over recent years and would like to extend an invitation to join us at any of our services – details of which can always be found on the notice board opposite the Old Crown.

For many, the high spot of the afternoon is the delicious cream tea and the chance to sit and watch the activities while enjoying freshly-baked scones and cakes. We work hard to keep the character of the fete traditional, although each year brings its own memorable highlights (last year it was the Olympic Torch and the rain...)

Before we know it, the martial arts, The Marionettes, the jugglers and fireeaters and the band have filled the afternoon with entertainment and it is time for the Grand Draw to be drawn – will you be taking the £100 prize home this year? (you have to be in it to win it!). Whether you are or not, you will be leaving with sincere thanks from Kelston for your generous giving during our afternoon of fund-raising and fun.
